Thor: Love & Thunder Shot Very Dramatic Scene In An Unusual Place

Thor: Love and Thunder's most visually stunning scene was shot in the most unexpected of places – a Best Buy parking lot. After sitting out Thor: Ragnarok, Portman makes a mighty return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Takia Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder as astrophysicist Dr. Jane Foster. Portman reportedly decided to depart the franchise following the Alan Taylor-directed entry, Thor: The Dark World, due to dissatisfaction with her character, though Waititi was able to convince Portman to return for Love and Thunder by promising her a more substantial role.

In his fourth solo outing as Thor, Chris Hemsworth leads the Love and Thunder cast as the titular Norse god alongside Christian Bale as new MCU villain Gorr the God Butcher. Though the Phase 4 film finds Hemsworth's Thor intent on putting his superhero-ing days behind him in an attempt to find inner peace, he is soon pulled back into action when Gorr acquires god-killing weapon the Necrosword and begins to seek the extinction of all gods. To stop the God Butcher, Thor recruits the help of old allies Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (voiced by Waititi), and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster who is now the Mighty Thor. Love and Thunder reviews have praised everything from its lead performances, ability to balance comedy and drama, and most of all – its stunning visuals.

During a recent interview with EW, Portman opened up about one of the most visually stunning scenes in Thor: Love and Thunder. Though the actress couldn't say too much about the scene, she did reveal it was filmed in the most unexpected of places – a real life Best Buy parking lot. Read what Portman shared below:

There’s one scene that’s one of the most visually beautiful scenes I’ve seen on film, and we shot [it] in real life in a Best Buy parking lot. It’s so wild to be on this size of movie, and we were literally in a parking lot with a blue screen, doing this really dramatic thing. It looks so stunning on film, but every time I see it, I’m like, "That’s a Best Buy parking lot."

Natalie Portman MCU Return Thor Love And Thunder

It's certainly high praise from Portman for her to call Love and Thunder's Best Buy scene one of the most visually striking scenes she has ever seen put on film. The Academy Award-winning actress has worked with many visually distinguished directors over her career. Starting acting at a young age, Portman worked with Luc Besson and Michael Mann for her first two feature film performances in Léon: The Professional and Heat, respectively. Following her stint in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Portman teamed with the inimitable Darren Aronofsky for Black Swan, which resulted in her Oscar win, and starred in Pablo Larraín's visually stunning Jackie, which netted her another Oscar nod.

The majority of MCU movies are shot inside Trilith Studios in Atlanta, though Love and Thunder was filmed at Fox Studios in Australia. Still, it's unclear why Waititi and company would venture outside of the fully equipped studio and onto a Best Buy parking lot only to shoot against a blue screen, though perhaps Waititi wanted to use natural light. Regardless of his reasoning, the scene seems to have panned out given Portman's praise. It will be interesting to see if audiences can distinguish which visually striking scene in Thor: Love and Thunder was shot in a Best Buy parking lot when watching the movie over the coming days.
