SpongeBob Parodies Thor: Love & Thunder in Hilarious Crossover Poster

SpongeBob and friends parody the characters of Thor: Love and Thunder in a new poster. SpongeBob Squarepants premiered in 1999 and follows the daily life of its titular character (voiced by Tom Kenny), an anthropomorphic sea sponge, and his friends in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. With SpongeBob being a very successful series, there are still new episodes of it being released over 20 years after its original premiere.

The popularity of SpongeBob SquarePants has led to the release of three feature films: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Sponge Out of Water, and Sponge on the Run, as well as two spin-off series, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years and The Patrick Star Show. The series' popularity has also inspired merchandise from T-shirts to electronics to stuffed animals and even cars. SpongeBob has also had a profound impact on internet culture, with SpongeBob memes becoming a popular sighting on the digital landscape.

Now, the official SpongeBob/Nickelodeon Instagram accounts have come together to post a parody poster for a fake movie called SpongeBob Glove and Dunder, featuring SpongeBob and his friends mimicking the characters of Thor: Love and Thunder. The art features SpongeBob acting as Thor, atop a clamshell, wielding his hydro-dynamic spatula—first featured in the episode "Help Wanted"—which is being struck by lightning, and flexing his Anchor Arms—a set of inflatable muscle balloons from the episode "MuscleBob BuffPants." He is surrounded by Squidward Tentacles, Pearl Krabs, Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, with the latter two sporting merchandise for Glove World!—first featured in the episode "Rock Bottom". Additionally, Glovey Glove, Glove World!'s official mascot, is seen floating above SpongeBob.

This isn't the first time SpongeBob has parodied other media. SpongeBob characters have recently parodied Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Top Gun: Maverick as well, and this poster continues the trend. While SpongeBob SquarePants actually has its own superhero characters that form the team International Justice League of Super Acquaintances, this poster is comical and so is imagining these characters taking on the same challenges Thor, Valkyrie, Jane Foster a.k.a. the Mighty Thor, and Korg faced in their movie.

While SpongeBob: Glove and Dunder isn't actually in the cards, it's surely a funny idea. SpongeBob is known for its many entertaining scenes, lines, memes, etc., and the recent parody posters the team behind SpongeBob have created add to the bunch. Fun and effective in engaging with the real world and fans everywhere of all ages, the SpongeBob Squarepants team knows what they're doing with these and there's probably even more on the way.
