Joker Is Officially Reborn In The DC Universe

Warning! Spoilers for Flashpoint Beyond #4 by DC Comics

In the Flashpoint universe, Batman has just discovered the true identity of the Clockwork Killer, as his previously believed dead wife, Martha Wayne, has returned as the Joker. In Flashpoint Beyond #4 by DC Comics, Thomas Wayne makes a breakthrough in identifying the person responsible for the death of heroes and villains who can manipulate time. However, it turns out the killer is closer to Batman than he could have imagined, as it's Flashpoint's Joker.

The Flashpoint universe came to be when Barry Allen went back in time to save his mother from being murdered by the Reverse-Flash, resulting in the DC universe changing into a much darker world. In the new timeline, Thomas Wayne took up the mantle of Batman after his son Bruce was killed by Joe Chill. However, for Martha Wayne, losing her son drove her insane, as she would become Flashpoint's Joker. However, The Joker  committed suicide after learning the truth about Bruce from the main timeline, becoming the Dark Knight. Now, the villain is back under extremely dark circumstances.

In Flashpoint Beyond #4 by Geoff Johns, Jeremy Adams, Tim Sheridan, Xermanico, Mikel Janin, Romulo Fajardo Jr., Jordie Bellaire, and Rob Leigh from DC Comics, Thomas Wayne's quest to find the Clockwork Killer leads him to find a new gear inside the murdered body of Eobard Thawne. As he tries to piece together the mystery, Dexter Dent, who stole one of Robin's suits from the Dark Knight and broke into Arkham Asylum to visit his mom, Gilda Dent (Two-Face), is shocked to see her team up with The Joker. Martha Wayne has somehow returned to life in the Flashpoint timeline. The revelation comes as Thomas Wayne realizes the gear he found from the Clockwork Killer was taken from a clock inside Wayne Manor.

Joker Martha Kent Flashpoint Beyond

Martha Wayne's return from the dead comes as quite a surprise, as The Joker died in previous Flashpoint stories. However, given the time-travel shenanigans and the Flashpoint universe's surprise return, it seems that Batman's wife was brought back from the dead at the same time as reality was restored. Martha has a reason to kill time-traveling heroes and villains, too, as she could be preventing Thomas Wayne's Batman from ever seeing his son, as she sees the Dark Knight as her greatest foe. So, severing his connection to his son might be her ultimate mission as the Clockwork Killer.

Martha Wayne's Joker is doing everything she can to ensure Thomas Wayne can never see his son again as she's taken on the mantle of the Clockwork Killer. It should make for quite the confrontation when the former partners meet again, as Batman will likely be forced to kill the Joker if he ever wants to see Bruce again. Flashpoint Beyond #4 by DC Comics is in comic book stores now.
